Gardaí from the Dublin Metropolitan North Division carried out an operation as part of Operation Thor Retail Day of Action yesterday, Saturday July 8th ’17.
Gardaí from the Northern Divisional Crime Task Force, Community Policing in Swords, Ballymun and Santry Garda Stations assisted by members from the Regional Traffic Unit in Dublin Castle and security staff from Retail Ireland carried out yesterdays operation at the Pavilions and Omni Shopping Centres in Dublin.
There were four pillars to this operation as follows:
• Warrant Execution
• Checkpoints
• Public Relations
• Arrests
• In the lead up to the operation an operation was conducted executing outstanding warrants against offenders. 18 persons were arrested as part of this operation.
• In the course of yesterdays operation 5 cars were seized for breaches of the Road Traffic Acts in and around the shopping centres.
• Garda Public Relations stands were erected in the centres and manned by members of the local community policing units. Crime prevention advice was imparted to members of the public at these stands. Sergeant Peter Smith, the Divisional Crime Prevention Officer liaised with various store owners and members of the security teams from the centres.
• There were 8 detections in the course of the operation, for offences including theft, fraud and an outstanding bench warrant. A number of other crimes that came to light as a result of the operation will be followed up with positive lines of inquiry having been developed.
